Phil has been a dedicated student of wine for the last thirteen years. As a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, Phil took advantage of any opportunity to integrate wine-related coursework into his schedule, and eventually took up winemaking as a hobby prior to his first winery job. For the past seven years, Phil has worked at Montezuma Winery in New York’s Finger Lakes region, working as assistant winemaker for two years prior to his promotion to winemaker in 2013. In his time at Montezuma, Phil has worked on and directed the production of a stylistically diverse array of award-winning wines, including those made from grapes, fruit, and honey, and was instrumental in developing the wine portfolio for Montezuma’s newly-opened sister winery, Idol Ridge.
